EUGENE, Ore. - Two North Carolina track and field alums punched their tickets to The World Athletics Championships in Tokyo from September 13-21.

Recent graduate Ethan Strand made the most out of his second professional track meet, running for the Nike Track Club based out of Flagstaff, Ariz. Strand won the first heat of the men's 1,500m prelims on Friday, August 1, earning a spot in the finals. Strand stepped up in the finals, shattering his personal best by nearly 3 seconds, the second-fastest NCAA all-time time in history (3:30.25). Strand finished in front of the 2024 Olympic Champion, Cole Hocker, and Olympic finalist Hobbs Kessler.
Madison Wiltrout (56.46 185-3) made Team USA in the women's javelin, finishing in second place with her best throw coming on her last attempt of the competition. Wiltrout secured a spot as she had enough world ranking points.
