Men’s Soccer Secures A Hard-Earned Draw at No. 5 NC State

RALEIGH, N.C. – The University of North Carolina men's soccer program traveled to Raleigh and secured a hard-earned draw against No. 5 NC State in front of a record-setting crowd. Both teams had their chances but neither could find the back of the net over the course of 90 minutes.
The Tar Heels improved to (3-1-1, 0-0-1 ACC), while the Wolfpack stand at 3-0-1 (0-0-1 ACC).

How It Happened
- A nice combination between Bertil Rygaard Hansen and Andrew Czech led to a shot that was blocked, leading to UNC's first corner of the game in the 8'.
- Rygaard Hansen stung the palms of the keeper in the 9'.
- NC State had one in the back of the net in the 25' on their first counterattack, but it was ruled out due to offside.
- Jack Sandmeyer picked up a yellow card in the ensuing run of play for a late challenge.
- Callum Frogson was shown yellow in the 30' for breaking up an NCSU attack.
- NCSU's ensuing free kick was blocked by the wall and the follow-up shot was saved by Andrew Cordes.
- NCSU's Calem Tommy was yellow carded in the 32' as Nacho Abeal was looking to cross. Abeal just missed the near corner on the free kick as it sailed over the bar.
- Good, intense 45' to open the match but nothing doing for either side as they headed to the break at 0-0.
- NC State's Aidan Payne picked up a yellow for stopping a counterattack in the 49'.
- Nacho Abeal broke free and appeared to be dragged down at the top of the box in the 58', but it was judged to be clean.
- NC State's Tyler Caton was shown yellow for pulling Luca Nikolai back during a counterattack in the 63'.
- NC State's Donovan Phillip rocketed one off the post in the 74' minute but the Heels were able to clear.
- UNC won a corner in the 83' and nearly used a glancing header from Callum Frogson to take the lead.
Inside the Box Score
- Andrew Cordes made seven saves on the night, one shy of his career high.
- UNC held the edge in corners at 7-6.
- Both Mac Swett and Dan Klink made their debuts this season, coming on in the 78'.
- John McDowell also saw his first minutes and nearly snagged an assist on a late corner.
