September 7, 2025 | Volleyball
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Volleyball remains perfect on the season (25-13, 25-15, 25-19), sweeping Oral Roberts as it improves to 4-0 on the season.
The Tar Heels shut down the Golden Eagles' offense as they hit .029 for the entire match and committed 27 attack errors.
The Tar Heels opened the first set strong as they won by 12 points, setting the tone for the rest of the match. They had two separate runs of six points or more. Lauren Schutter chipped in five blocks, which was one away from tying her career high in the first set alone.
The standout defensive effort from Schutter in her first-ever start continued in the second set as she passed her previous career best of six blocks and ended the match with seven. Carolina held Oral Roberts to a -.015 hitting percentage through two sets.
Carolina opened the third set slightly slower than the first two as the team started down 7-3, but methodically worked its way back into the lead. Carolina went on to tie the set 16-16 before going on a 7-2 run propelled by back-to-back aces from Hailey Pearce before winning 25-19.
Today's defensive effort marked the first time this season Carolina had double blocks as they led the category by seven. Schutter led the match in blocks with seven. Laynie Smith was second with four, which was her Tar Heel best.
Chelsea Thorpe added to her season total of blocks with two more, as she has the second most on the season with ten, and Jackie Taylor sits on the leader board with 11.
The SEC-ACC Showdown At The Net opens up with a match with No. 12 Florida on Tuesday, Sept. 9 at 7 p.m. EST.
