Women’s Tennis To Host Two Saturday Matches

CHAPEL Hill, N.C. – No. 3 University of North Carolina women's tennis is set to host a pair of matches Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. at Chewning Tennis Center. The Tar Heels will first take on Gardner-Webb before concluding the day in a match against Appalachian State.
Carolina heads into their second weekend of the 2026 campaign after picking up dominant 7-0 win over Campbell to begin the season. The Tar Heels will continue the season against the Runnin' Bulldogs from Gardner-Webb for just the third time in program history. UNC is 2-0 all time against Gardner-Webb. The teams last clashed in 2025 where the Tar Heels claimed a 7-0 victory.
Carolina is also slated to compete against App State Saturday afternoon. The Tar Heels will face the Mountaineers for the ninth time in program history, and for the first time since 2023. UNC is undefeated, 8-0, in matchups against App State.

- Reese Brantmeier won the 2025 NCAA Singles National Championship.
- Both doubles partners Reese Brantmeier/Alanis Hamilton and Oby Kajuru/Susanna Maltby earned All-America honors in the fall after reaching the quarterfinals at the NCAA Individual Championships.
- Brantmeier earned All-America honors in singles this fall making the senior eight-for-eight in All-America selections across her career.
- Anna Frey and Maddy Zampardo joined the team Jan. 2026. Frey picked up her first career win in the season opener against Campbell.
- Head Coach Brian Kalbas leads the country in wins among active coaches and is third in all-time wins in NCAA tennis history with a 798-196 record.
- Carolina heads into the season ranked no. 3 in the ITA Preseason Poll.
- Five Tar Heels are featured in the ITA Singles Rankings (Brantmeier – 1, Kajuru – 23, Evans – 35, Rabman – 51, Hamilton – 69).
