BALTIMORE- No.14/15 Carolina fencing hit the road as a team for the first time in 2026 and returned to Chapel Hill undefeated with three victories.Â
The women's team opened against Drew University and made a statement, going 27-0 and never losing a bout. Finally, the women's team closed out the day with an incredible 26-1 record against Haverford, with epee and sabre going undefeated. Â
Men's sabre had a great team performance, going 9-0 with six different fencers, as they beat Drew 24-3. The team followed it up with a 23-4 victory against Johns Hopkins. Men's sabre again produced a 9-0 record to give Carolina the final victory of the weekend, going 9-0 to beat Haverford.
Individually, there were many standout performances, such as the mid-year enrollee, Youssef Shamel made an immediate impact in his debut meet, going 7-1. Elden Wood and Nicky Wind combined for a 13-0 record as the two elder statesmen on the men's sabre squad, leading the way to a 26-1 record as a weapons group. The men's team had seven fencers go undefeated.
Just like men's sabre, the women's weapon group went 26-1 with four of the five fencers staying undefeated on the weekend. Women's epee notched two 9-0 matches with four fencers never losing. Lauren Yu and Katie McGillion-Moore both were undefeated for women's foil.
