No. 3 North Carolina Tops No. 14 Virginia, 6-1

CHAPEL Hill, N.C. – No. 3 University of North Carolina women's tennis downed no. 14 Virginia, 6-1, Monday at Chewning Tennis Center. The Tar Heels' win marks their first ranked win of the season.
The Tar Heels started the day with a slight shift in the double's lineup order. No. 3 Kajuru/Maltby competed in the ones position with no. 11 Brantmeier/Hamilton at two and Evans/Frey in the third position. No. 11 Brantmeier/Hamilton picked up an impressive win over No. 10 Xu/Genis Salas, 6-3. Oby Kajuru and partner Susanna Maltby eventually fell to their opponents from Virginia leaving the doubles point up for grabs. Evans/Frey then pulled out a gritty 7-5 win to secure the doubles point for Carolina.
In singles action, UNC controlled the match taking five of the six singles matches. The competition picked up as no. 23 Kajuru and no. 20 Annabelle Xu entered a third set. Both players went back and forth before Kajuru pulled out the win, 11-9, in the third. No. 51 Theadora Rabman dropped the first set before making a comeback to top her Cavalier opponent, 3-6, 7-6 (5), 10-8.
