Men's Tennis Opens Season With 7-0 Win Over Queens

CHAPEL HILL, N.C.—North Carolina cruised past Queens, 7-0, to start the 2026 dual match season on Tuesday afternoon on the Cone-Kenfield Indoor Courts of the Chewning Tennis Center.
The Tar Heels breezed to the doubles point and swept all six singles matches without losing a set. With the win, Carolina improved to 1-0 this season. Queens fell to 0-1.
How it Happened
• Carolina snared the doubles point in quick fashion to start the afternoon. Senior Roan Jones and sophomore Nick Mangiapane cruised to a 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles over Mark Agafanov and Hamilton Huitt, followed by a 6-1 win by freshmen Kase Schinnerer and Ian Mayew at No. 2 over Noe Villen and Gavin Ryan.
• Niels Ratiu gave the Tar Heels a 2-0 lead with a 6-1, 6-1 win on court No. 4 over Villen.
• Minutes later, Jones' 6-1, 6-1 win on No. 2 over Alex Morris made the score 3-0 Carolina.
• Constantinos Djakouris won the clincher on court No. 5, 6-2, 6-1, over Ryan to make the score 4-0.
• The Tar Heels also picked up wins from Chris Xu (6-2, 6-1 on court No. 1), Mayew (6-2, 6-1 on court No. 3) and Anthony Wright (6-1, 6-2 on court No. 6).

The Tar Heels will head to Winston-Salem, N.C., for the ITA Kickoff Weekend on Friday and Saturday. Carolina will face Vanderbilt on Friday before meeting either host Wake Forest or Virginia Tech on Saturday.
