RALEIGH, N.C. – Eighth-ranked NC State (12-3, 3-0 ACC) defeated No. 11 North Carolina (8-2, 1-1 ACC) Friday evening, in Atlantic Coast Conference wrestling action.
Â
On the night, Luke Simcox (141), Laird Root (157) and Jake Dailey (184) were victorious for the visiting Tar Heels, with Dailey earning the lone bonus-point win for Carolina.
Â
Starting at 141-pounds, Simcox earned a 2-1 decision over 12th-ranked Ryan Jack. The win for the redshirt-sophomore is his second-straight ACC win to begin the year, and his first ranked dual victory of the campaign.
Â
Two matches later at 157-pounds, Root posted a takedown in the second period to take the lead. With less than a minute remaining in the bout, Root posted another score for the Tar Heels, securing the 7-2 victory.
Â
Rounding out the Carolina individual efforts, Dailey's 15-5 major decision was his second consecutive bonus-point win, following last week's 21-5 technical fall at Virginia.
Â
Up next, the Tar Heels will host No. 14 Pitt Friday evening inside Carmichael Arena. Action between Carolina and the Panthers gets underway at 7 PM, with the dual airing on ACCNX.
