Softball Shuts Down Radford, Moves To 9-0

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -. Carolina notched its fourth straight shutout, beating Radford 6-0 on Wednesday evening to continue its hot start to the season.Â

The Tar Heels are 9-0 for the first time since 2012.

In the bottom of the first, Carolina scored their first run when Sanaa Thompson came home on a passed ball. Shelby Barbee then hit a home run, bringing in another run and extending the lead. The homer was the 20th of her career and the fifth of the season.
Â
On the first pitch of the fourth inning, Thompson hits a home run to deep left field to make it 4-0.Â

Barbee added more runs off a double to the outfield, taking back the team RBI lead to grow the lead to 5-0. Reece Outlaw added another run on a passed ball. Barbee now leads the team with 16 RBI on the year.

Carly Maxton pitched a phenomenal game for her fourth win of the season, twirling a complete-game shutout. Tonight's shutout was the first of the season and sixth of her career. It was also the seventh time she has gone seven innings in her career.Â
