Six Tar Heels Qualify For Finals, Stakun-Pickering Takes Third In Heptathlon

BOSTON-Â Carolina finished day two of the Atlantic Coast Conference Championships with six Tar Heel athletes qualifying for finals and one podium finish.
Vera Sjöberg (4:35.38) and Reese Dalton (4:35.50) both punched their tickets to the women's mile finals on Saturday. The duo finished first in their heat and second overall.
Aiden Neal (4:03.99) will race for the men's mile title as he finished in second in his heat.
Max Stakun-Pickering (5666 points) brought home a bronze medal after finishing the final three events of the heptathlon. Friday's multi-event action was highlighted by his winning the pole vault with a personal best jump of 4.90m. Stakun-Pickering finished in the top three of three total events: shot put, high jump, and pole vault.
A pair of Tar Heels in the women's 60m hurdles qualified for the final as Aaliyah Berry (8.24) finished second in her heat to earn the automatic qualifier, while Kalani Witherspoon (8.33) advanced on time. All three Carolina hurdlers who competed ran in the same heat.
To close out the evening, Makayla Paige (2:03.92) punched her ticket to the women's 800m finals by winning her heat and finishing second overall.
The men are in third with 28.5 points and the women are in 13th with seven points.
