Johnson Shines On Day One Of Fencing NCAAs

NOTRE DAME, IND -Â Freshman Dagny Johnson had an incredible National Championships debut. Johnson finished the first day of the women's national championships in fourth, heading into the final day of competition with 12 wins, while Carolina sits at 15 as a team. Â

Johnson rattled off six straight wins in the first rounds, which was highlighted by the second of her two comeback wins as she brought down the reigning national champion from Notre Dame, Magda Skarbonkiewicz.

Johnson's momentum carried into the final two rounds, where she posted a 3-1 record in both.Â

Mariasole Capellua battled all day in women's epee, with most of her bouts ending within one score of her opponent.
