May 27, 2026 | Baseball
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Carolina baseball star reliever Caden Glauber has been listed among the five finalists for Baseball America's Freshman of the Year award, the organization announced on Wednesday morning.
Glauber has been outstanding in his debut campaign in Carolina blue, racking up a 1.93 ERA with 80 strikeouts and a .180 opposing batting average. All three measures lead the team and his ERA is the third best in the country. He is 16 spots ahead of the next closes freshman in ERA with a 0.50 gap.
Three Tar Heels have won this award previously. Most recently was Colin Moran in 2011, preceded by Dustin Ackley in 2007 and Brian Roberts in 1997. Glauber would be the first Tar Heel pitcher to win the distinction should he go on to do so.
He is joined on the list by Texas' duo of Sam Cozart and Anthony Pack, Jacob Parker from Mississippi State, and Tedd Tokheim from Stanford. Cozart is the only other pitcher. The other three are outfielders.
Collegiate production was the primary factor that played into the committee's decision making, along with professional prospect status and feedback from pro scouts. Of the 45 winners in the history of the award, 34 have gone on to play at least one game in the MLB. This year's winner will be announced on June 11.
