June 25, 2026 | Baseball
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Carolina baseball assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Scott Jackson has been named the ABCA/Soldier Sports DI National Assistant Coach of the Year, the organization announced on Thursday morning.
Â
Jackson is the first Tar Heel to win the award since its inception in 1999, chosen by fellow members of the American Baseball Coaches Association. The Charlotte native just concluded his 10th season as a member of the North Carolina coaching staff and second consecutive since returning after spending eight years as the head coach at Liberty.
The Heels' first base coach focuses most of his time on the position player group, helping the 2026 team break the program record for runs scored in a season (550) on their way to the finals of the Men's College World Series. UNC finished the campaign with the third most runs scored in country while sitting ninth in hits (672) and fourth in walks (376).
Â
He also has a big hand in orchestrating the Carolina defense. The .982 fielding percentage also set a new program record and by a fairly wide margin. The 2011 and 2017 teams, both also coached by Jackson, had previously held the record at .979.
