Glauber Wins D1Baseball’s Freshman Of The Year Award
June 30, 2026 | Baseball
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – From graduating high school a year early straight to the top of the sport, Caden Glauber put together one of the most sensational debut seasons in college baseball history. For his extraordinary efforts, he has been named D1Baseball's Freshman of the Year.
The Fort Mill, S.C., native is the first North Carolina pitcher to win a national Freshman of the Year award of any kind and the first since Aaran Sabato did so in 2019. Glauber's win makes him the first Tar Heel to win the D1Baseball honor since its inception in 2015.
Despite his age, the flamethrowing righty never feared the big moment or the big stage. His consistent effectiveness played a massive role in getting his team to the Men's College World Series and eventually the Championship Series. He was called upon by head coach Scott Forbes 30 times this season, driving the Heels to victory in 29 of those outings.
Glauber finished tied for the best record in the nation at 12-0 and with the fourth best ERA (2.05). His 114 strikeouts led all freshmen, 20 more than second place, and his .188 opposing batting average sat third among the rookies. He was the only DI pitcher this year to have at least 10 wins and five saves and the first Tar Heel to do so since Trent Thornton in 2013.
The 12 wins are the most in Carolina history for a freshman and ties Adam Warren (2007) for the second most wins without defeat all-time. Jake Knapp reset that record with a 14-0 ledger in 2025.
The freshman phenom adds this award to his already impressive trophy cabinet which as of this moment includes ACC Freshman of the Year, six All-America honors (four first teams), MCWS All-Tournament Team, All-ACC First Team, and Perfect Game's College Co-Freshman of the Year.
