Men’s Soccer Takes Down Liberty, 5-4, In Sunday Exhibition

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The University of North Carolina men's soccer took down Liberty, 5-4, in the initial exhibition match of the season on Sunday night at Dorrance Field at Play2Dream Legacy Stadium. The Heels got open-play goals from Ryan Zellefrow, Bertil Rygaard Hansen, Jonathan Luna Sabando and Jace Donawa, while also converting a penalty.

How It Happened

21' – Ryan Zellefrow collected a nice pass from Nico Loebus, rounded the keeper and slotted one home for a 1-0 lead.
22' – Jayden Ramos returned the favor just a moment later, beating Alan Rutkowski to equalize.
23' – Zellefrow was brough down in the penalty box and Carolina converted from the spot to make it 2-1.
24' – Bertil Rygaard Hansen added a third for Carolina with a blast off a Zellefrow feed.
25' – Hydration Break
32' – Liberty converted a penalty to make it 3-2.
47' – Jonathan Luna Sabando collected a deflection in the box and buried it in the bottom right corner to make it 4-2.
60' – Liberty pounced on a loose ball in the box and smashed home to shrink UNC's lead to one.
69' – Hydration Break
75' – Jace Donawa laced a screamer that deflected off the goalies hands and into the back of the next to increase the lead to 5-3.
85' – Liberty slotted one home late to close UNC's lead to 5-4.

Up Next
North Carolina will play the second of its two exhibition matches when it travels to Maryland on Thursday, Aug. 13. That match will commence at 7 p.m.
