Bio
Dorrance on Ru: “Ru took the spring off. She’ll have some catching up to do. The top quality she brings is a gift of fury. She has fantastic pace. She’s very good with her left foot. She has a classic move that’s consistent with beating people 1v1 down the left side. She will compete for minutes up top and possibly in flank midfield if we go with a 3-4-3.”
Redshirt Junior Year (2018): Scored game-tying goal in ACC Tournament final versus Florida State • played 25 minutes in win over Virginia Tech in ACC Tournament quarterfinals, earning praise from coach Anson Dorrance • came off bench to play on wings in midfield and at forward all campaign • played 381 minutes overall in 20 games • played a season-high 42 minutes against Virginia Tech in NCAA Tournament third round • assisted on insurance goal by Madison Schultz against Marquette • played 25 minutes off bench versus Florida State in ACC championship game and 23 minutes in NCAA first round against Howard • had 23-minute performance in NCAA second round against Kansas, assisting on a goal by Rachael Dorwart in the 66th minute.
Junior Year (2017): Was one of the Tar Heels’ most improved players in preseason practice and performed spectacularly in a reserve role in 19 minutes in the season-opening win over Duke • tore an ACL in practice three days later and red-shirted in 2017.
Sophomore Year (2016): Both started and played a key reserve role • can play anywhere on the field - striker, midfield, defense • by end of the season she was coming off the bench as a reserve at striker • started four times and saw action in 25 games • played a total of 934 minutes • scored her first career goal in the 36th minute of 2-1 win over Wake Forest, a tally which tied the game after the Tar Heels had fallen behind five minutes earlier • notched her second goal of the season with a monster 25-yard strike in 3-0 win over Pitt • recorded first career point by assisting on opening goal of game by Bridgette Andrewjewski in win over FAU • also assisted on Zoe Redei’s insurance goal versus Villanova in 2-0 win • participated in Rising Star program in Carolina Leadership Academy.
