As A Sophomore (2022)
Led all NCAA Division I players with 42 pitching appearances, fourth-most in program history • Compiled a 4-0 record with a 3.80 ERA in 45.0 innings pitched • Averaged 11.8 strikeouts per nine innings with a 2.7 strikeout to walk ratio • Pitched 1.0 inning or more in 22 appearances • Made midweek starts against Campbell and Gardner-Webb • Earned his lone win of the season against Seton Hall (March 20) • Did not allow an earned run in his first 13.1 innings pitched of the season • Threw a season-high 4.2 innings against Gardner-Webb with four strikeouts • Fanned six batters in two appearances in a total of 3.1 innings against Seton Hall • Struck out four of six batters faced in 1.1 innings against Pittsburgh (March 13) to record his only save • Punched out three batters in 2.0 innings or fewer six times.

Competed as a freshman after he received a waiver from the NCAA with the previous season’s cancellation due to a coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic • Appeared in 25 games with five starts • Compiled a 1-2 record with a 5.26 ERA • Pitched 49.2 innings with 62 strikeouts and 14 walks • Ranked second on the team in appearances, strikeouts and batters struck out looking (19) • Made 20 relief appearances, third-most on the squad • Averaged 11.2 strikeouts per nine innings with a 4.4 strikeout-to-walk ratio • Made his first career start at Miami (4/23), striking out eight in 6.0 innings • It was his first of five consecutive starts • Fanned seven batters in 4.2 innings of relief against UNCG (5/11) and at Texas Tech (6/5).

Appeared in eight games for the Tar Heels, all out of the bullpen • Threw 7.1 innings including a season-high 2.1 against Elon (2/18) in his collegiate debut • Punched out three batters against Elon • Finished with a 1.23 ERA • Recorded six strikeouts • Matchup pitcher for the Tar Heels with five of his eight outings less than an inning.

Full name is Shawn Michael Rapp • Born on July 3, 2000, in Livingston, N.J. • Son of Lisa and Tom Rapp • Four-time high honors student, vice president of the ping-pong club and spent two summers as a camp counselor • Older brother, Brian, pitched at Boston College and was selected by the Minnesota Twins in the 2018 MLB Draft • Another older brother, Tommy, is an Army ranger in the 25th Infantry based in Hawai’i.
