Went 6-3 for the second consecutive season and posted a 4.32 ERA Tossed 81.1 innings to rank second on the Tar Heel staff Finished the season third on the team with 59 strikeouts and 14 starts Opened the season 2-0 after allowing just one run in six innings to both Seton Hall (Feb. 23) and LeMoyne (March 4) Won three straight starts (High Point, Maryland, Duke) from April 8-20 Blanked Maryland on six hits for 8.2 innings to improve to 5-2 on April 13 Picked up his fourth win of the season earlier that same week with five innings of three-hit work against High Point (April 8) Limited Duke to just four hits over six innings on April 20 Went six innings against Mississippi State on June 1 to help the Tar Heels win the NCAA Starkville Regional. Won consecutive Saturday starts versus ACC rivals Florida State, Virginia and Wake Forest from March 23 to April 6 Picked up the win over FSU on March 23 by throwing seven three-hit innings and giving up just one earned run Came back exactly one week later with his second dominant performance in a row with a complete game shutout at Virginia in which he struck out a season-high 13 Cavaliers Became the first UNC freshman to throw a complete-game shutout since 1984 Was named ACC Player of the Week for his performance against Virginia Gave up four runs in six innings against Wake Forest on April 6 but still collected his third consecutive victory Pitched seven strong innings and struck out six batters in a mid-week win over Virginia Commonwealth on April 23 Made his first career appearance out of the bullpen on May 1 versus Appalachian State and struck out two of the three batters he faced Scattered ten hits over five innings in a 19-10 victory at Duke on May 12.
