Junior Season (2017)
Friday night ace who had one of the best pitching seasons in Carolina history as a junior • Finished 9-1 with a 2.53 ERA and 116 strikeouts in 92.2 innings of work • Consensus All-American who earned first-team honors from ABCA/Rawlings, Baseball America, Collegiate Baseball and the NCBWA • Also grabbed second-team honors from D1Baseball and Perfect Game • ABCA Atlantic Region Player of the Year • College Baseball Foundation Pitcher of the Year Finalist • Golden Spikes Award Finalist • Dick Howser Trophy Finalist • Became the fourth Tar Heel to win ACC Pitcher of the Year honors and was a first-team All-ACC starting pitcher • Was drafted No. 15 overall by the Houston Astros in the 2017 MLB Draft • Finished his UNC career with 294 strikeouts, the fifth-most in program history, and his 116 punchouts in 2017 were the seventh-most in a single season at Carolina • Went at least six innings in 12 of his 15 starts, including eight of 10 league starts • Beat NC State in the ACC tournament, limiting the Wolfpack to four hits over seven innings • Allowed two runs over 7.0 innings and struck out eighth to beat Duke is his final regular season home start • Struck out seven and allowed just one run on five hits in a win over Clemson on April 28 • Also beat NCSU in the regular season, striking out six and allowing one run over 7.0 innings • Fanned 10 and limited Florida State to just one run on three hits in a win in Tallahassee on March 31 • Blanked Miami for seven innings and struck out nine to beat the Hurricanes on March 24 • In one of the most electric outings of his time at UNC, struck out a career-high 14 batters in seven innings to beat Georgia Tech on March 17 • Struck out a combined 30 batters and allowed just one earned run in 20.0 innings to start the season against Kentucky, Radford and Long Beach State • Shared the team's S.H. Basnight Award for most valuable pitcher with Josh Hiatt.
Sophomore Season (2016)
Finished 7-2 with a 3.10 ERA in 13 starts as Carolina's Saturday starter • Named to the Golden Spikes Award Midseason Watch List (top 60 overall players) • Earned second-team All-ACC honors • Struck out 111 batters in 78.1 innings of work, ranking third nationally in K/9 ratio at 12.75 • Fanned at least seven in 11 of 13 starts and hit double figures on four occasions, including a career-high 13 in the win over Virginia Tech on April 9 • Carried a no-hitter into the seventh against the Hokies • Was even more dominant against league opponents, going 6-2 with 91 strikeouts and a 2.45 ERA in 10 starts • Matched a career high with 8.1 innings of work in a no-decision against Louisville on May 7 in which he struck out eight and allowed just one earned run • Had perhaps the best outing of his career against Georgia Tech on March 25, striking out 11 over eight shutout frames • Followed up a strong sophomore season with a spectacular summer with the USA Collegiate National Team, posting a 0.00 ERA in 21.2 innings of work • Allowed just seven hits and one unearned run for the CNT, striking out 21 and walking just three.
Freshman Season (2015)
Posted a 5-3 recored in 14 starts with a 4.09 ERA in 72.2 innings • Struck out 67 batters and walked 30 on the year • Worked at least five innings in 10 of 14 starts as a true freshman weekend starter • Fanned seven and did not walk a batter in 5.2 innings to get the win over Clemson in the ACC tournament (5/22) • Allowed just three hits over seven scoreless frames and matched a season high with eight strikeouts in a 6-1 win over Boston College (4/25) • Pitched into the ninth and took a hard-luck no-decision after allowing two runs on five hits and striking out seven at Clemson (4/4) • Limited a powerful Miami lineup to just one run on two hits in seven innings in a non-decision (3/28) • Picked up his first career road win after allowing one run on four hits in six innings at Pitt (3/14) • Won his first career ACC start against Duke (3/7), firing six shutout frames and striking out a season-high eight batters • Allowed just one unearned run in five innings in his collegiate debut, a win against Seton Hall (2/14).
