McAllister, Reed Earn Academic All-ACC Honors

Greensboro, N.C. ---- University of North Carolina student-athletes Ross McAllister and Jeff Reed were named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Football Team on Tuesday.
McAllister, a 6-5, 255-pound senior from Dunwoody, Ga., earned a 4.0 grade point average in business administration. He was a walk-on at Carolina but earned a scholarship as a sophomore and became a full-time starter at defensive end as a junior. Last season, McAllister started all 11 games and had 35 tackles, including nine tackles for loss and five sacks. He helped Carolina set a school record with 53 sacks in 2000.
A native of Charlotte, N.C., Reed had a 3.1 GPA in journalism. Last year, he made 16 of 20 field goals in 2000 and was perfect on all 30 extra point attempts. Reed originally came to Carolina as a walk-on, but earned a scholarship last season following the Florida State game. He was one of 20 semifinalists for the Lou Groza Award, annually presented to the nation's top place-kicker, and will return to the Tar Heels as a senior in 2001. Reed also was an ACC Honor Roll student in 1999.
