RECRUITING
NCAA legislation has become more stringent and does not allow a booster to be involved in the recruiting process. Restricted areas include items listed below and apply to the prospect as well as the prospect's parents/legal guardians and relatives.1. Contacts - Boosters may not make in-person recruiting contacts with the prospect or his/her relatives at any site. This includes when a prospect is on campus for a visit.
2. Correspondence/Telephone Calls - Letters, facsimiles, emails, or phone calls from boosters to prospects for recruiting purposes are prohibited.
3. Gifts - The provision of financial aid or benefit of any kind (e.g., clothing, special discounts, lodging, meals, transportation, tickets, loans of money) to prospects or their relatives is prohibited.
4. Evaluation - A booster may observe a prospect's contest at his or her initiative, but may not contact the prospect, prospect's parents/legal guardians, relatives, prospect's coach, principal, or counselor in an attempt to evaluate the academic or athletic abilities of the prospect. A booster is responsible for all incurred costs or fees at a contest. The booster may not pick up transcripts, films, or any other information pertaining to a prospect's ability.
5. Employment - The employment or arranging of employment for a prospect before the completion of his/her senior year is prohibited. After graduation, a booster may employ a prospect as long as compensation is for work actually performed and at a rate commensurate with experience.
6. Summer Sports Camps - A booster cannot contribute financial support in the name of UNC or designate such a contribution to a specific high school athlete. A booster may respond to a request for donations to send high school students to camps. The high school and the student must make the decision as to which camp the student attends. These funds may not be designated for a specific student for his/her attendance at a specific camp. A booster may donate to a high school booster club, provided this booster club has made a concerted effort to solicit funds from the general public and not just UNC Alumni/Educational Foundation members.
Please Note: If you know of a prospect that might want to attend UNC, the only permissible activity is to call the appropriate UNC coach.
