The primary mission of The Rams Club is straightforward – our members provide scholarships for Carolina’s outstanding student-athletes. Rams Club members like you offer the gift of opportunity for the best student-athletes to attend the best university, to compete in the best facilities, and to play for the best coaches at the highest level of competition in all 28 of our varsity sports. Through the Scholarship Endowment, you provide a legacy of support that touches the lives of our student-athletes and the future of Carolina Athletics forever.
TUITION COSTS HAVE DOUBLED IN THE LAST 10 YEARS.
Were you aware that the cost of tuition for Marcus Paige was more than twice the cost for Tyler Hansbrough? The overall cost of athletic scholarships at Carolina continues to climb – ringing up a price tag of $14.6 million in 2015-2016. We provide aid to more than 450 student-athletes annually, and we face a serious challenge. Cost increases have stretched our ability to provide the scholarships that directly touch the lives of our student-athletes, and to position Carolina teams to compete at a national level.
Scholarships are more critical than ever
Carolina Athletics and its supporters have long believed in the value of providing scholarships to worthy young men and women. It is a hallmark of who we are and our commitment to excellence. The Rams Club – as part of the early phase of the University of North Carolina’s capital campaign – is excited to seek $150 million in new scholarship endowment gifts. In doing so, The Rams Club will help secure the broad-based scholarship program, and create one of the few endowments nationally that fully covers scholarship costs.
The Scholarship Gap is growing
The difference between the yield from the endowment and the actual cost of scholarships is growing at an unsustainable rate. Annual Fund support currently covers this gap; however, it will not be able to address the funding challenge in the long term. Your support for the Scholarship Endowment will ensure faster growth to support our student-athletes.
Your gift to the Scholarship Endowment will secure the ability of Carolina to attract the best student-athletes to Chapel Hill, to offer them an incredible college experience, and to positively influence them in ways that will benefit them for the rest of their lives and do so for generations to come.
Please consider an endowed scholarship gift of any amount through an outright or deferred gift. Your gift can create a new scholarship, add to an existing scholarship, or be an undesignated gift of any size to the Scholarship Endowment. (The current cost to endow a full scholarship is $500,000.) Because the Scholarship Endowment is so important to the future of Carolina Athletics, all gifts to the Scholarship Endowment currently carry a 40% bonus in priority points (1.4 points per $100 donated).
