Carolina Announces Team Awards For 2016-17 Season

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The UNC rowing program has announced its team awards for 2016-17, honoring Tar Heels who excelled on the water, in the weight room, on the ergs and in the classroom.
Sophomore Mackenzie Drake earned the Fastest 2K Award for the varsity squad after having claimed that honor for the novice team last season. This year's novice winner was freshman Abby Hudspeth.
The Spirit Award for the varsity squad went to senior Alexis Amato. She won that honor on the novice squad in 2013-14, when she was a freshman. This year's winner for the novice squad was freshman Bridget Tarnowski.
Sophomore Paige Colpo was selected as Most Improved on the varsity squad. Hudspeth and classmate Melanie Hussey shared that honor on the novice squad.
The Coaches' Award for the varsity squad went to junior Kathryn Johnson. For the novice squad, the winner was Olivia Corriere.
Amato also was honored with the Academic Achievement Award, given to the senior with the highest cumulative GPA. She was honored earlier this month for having one of the 10 highest GPAs among all senior student-athletes.
Amato also won the team's highest honor for strength and conditioning, the Iron Ram Award. In other strength and conditioning honors, sophomore Kate Hickert was honored as Most Improved and freshmen Katie Bell and Abby Hudspeth shared the Newcomer Award.
