AT CAROLINA
Has appeared in 74 career games, more than any other Tar Heel • Has scored 150 points and grabbed 114 rebounds in those 74 games • Attends the University on a Morehead Scholarship, the most prestigious academic and service grant awarded at UNC • Fundamentally sound player • A solid positional rebounder • An adept outside shooter • Has made 20 of 53 career three-point field goals • One of only two upperclassmen in the program • Stayed in Chapel Hill this past summer to concentrate on work in the weight room • Wears No. 44 because it was his high school uniform number • Three-time ACC Honor Roll member.
JUNIOR SEASON (2001-02)
Started 16 games at small forward • Scored 108 points and had 69 rebounds • Averaged 3.9 points and 2.5 rebounds per game • Made his first career start in the third game of the season against eventual national finalist Indiana and responded with 9 points on 3 of 3 three-point shooting • Scored a career-high 14 points (tying for the team lead) against College of Charleston • Had one other double-figure game, scoring 11 against Binghamton • Had five assists and no turnovers and four offensive rebounds against NC A&T • Totaled eight points and six rebounds at home vs. Wake Forest • Had a career-high eight rebounds, including six offensive, against Davidson • Had five or more rebounds in six different games • Made 18 of 42 three-point field goal attempts, a percentage of .429 • Made a season-high three three-pointers against Indiana and Charleston.
SOPHOMORE SEASON (2000-01)
Named to the 2000-01 Academic All-Atlantic Coast Conference Team • Saw action in 22 games • Scored 33 points, grabbed 27 rebounds and had nine assists and two blocked shots • Scored a career-high 10 points against Miami • Made two field goals, including a three-pointer, and went 5 for 7 from the free throw line against the Hurricanes • Grabbed a career-high five boards against Appalachian State and Miami • Went 3 for 3 from the floor at Appalachian State • Had four rebounds at Texas A&M • Scored five points in the first half at UCLA • Subbed into the UCLA game with UNC ahead by eight points and came out seven minutes later after the Tar Heels extended their lead to 19 points • Hit an 18-foot jumper and a 21-foot three-pointer against the Bruins • Shot 72 percent from the free throw line for the season.
FRESHMAN SEASON (1999-2000)
Played in 24 games, including 13 ACC regular-season contests and the NCAA Final Four against Florida • Scored nine points, grabbed 18 rebounds and made three steals • Scored five points against Howard and two each against College of Charleston and Buffalo • Had a season-high three rebounds in wins over Buffalo and Tennessee Tech.
PREP/PERSONAL
Earned conference Most Valuable Player and all-state, all-region honors at Hickory High School • Played for Coach John Worley • Established seven school records, including most career points and rebounds • Averaged 16 points, nine rebounds and three assists as a senior and 17 points, 10 boards and two assists as a junior • Led Hickory to two state championship game appearances • Also earned all-state, all-region and all-conference honors in soccer • Set the school record for goalies for lowest goals against average • National Honor Society president and Hickory’s Student of the Year • Enjoys reading, playing golf and playing the cello • Born William Wesley Johnson on Oct. 18, 1980, in Charlotte • Son of Wallace and Sallie Johnson.
