Career Best Times: 23.18 in the 50-yard freestyle; 50.81 in the 100-yard freestyle; 55.66 in the 100-yard butterfly; 26.83 in the 50-meter freestyle; 59.23 in the 100-meter freestyle; 1:05.43 in the 100-meter butterfly.
General: Three-time CREED Mentor in bCLA...completed Rising Stars program and is now enrolled in the Leadership Lab...Carolina Outreach representative...co-founded the Carolina Athletics Relay for Life team which raised $7000 in spring of 2015…co-captained second annual Carolina Athletics Relay for Life team which raised over $12,000 across the last two years…organized Carolina Dreams event during UNC dual meet with Navy last January.
2015-16: Co-recipient of the squad’s Patrick & Mary Louise Earey Service Award with Abby Fisher…winner of ACC Top 6 for Service award…named to UNC’s 4.0 club in fall semester 2015… at Carolina College Invitational, she placed sixth in 50 freestyle (23.55) and in the 100 fly (55.66) while taking fifth in the 100 freestyle (50.97)… named to ACC Academic Honor Roll.
2014-15: Chosen for 2014-15 All-ACC Academic Team...honored with Dean’s List selections in both semesters...won the 50-yard freestyle in dual meet versus Duke...against the Blue Devils she recorded career best times in the 50 free at 23.18 and in the 100 free at 50.81...a Rising Star in the Carolina Leadership Academy…served as a CREED Mentor in the CLA...named to 2014-15 ACC Academic Honor Roll.
2013-14: At the Nike Cup, she placed in two individual events and swam on three relay teams…posted career best times in 50 free and 100 free in the meet…finished 21st in the 50-yard freestyle at 24.06, 22nd in the 100-yard freestyle at 51.81 and swam on the 5th place 200-yard freestyle relay at 1:34.15, the 6th place 200-yard medley relay at 1:42.69 and the 11th place 400-yard medley relay at 3:27.47…a part of the UNC “4.0 Club”…merited ACC Honor Roll kudos…named to Dean’s List both semesters.
Prep: A graduate of Holmdel High School…four-year varsity swimmer on Holmdel team…captain of team as a senior…specialized in high school in the 50 and 100 freestyles and the 100 fly…four-year selection as team MVP…second-team All-Shore selection in 2012 & 2013…also played varsity tennis for four years in high school…captained the tennis team as a senior...played No. 1 singles as a senior and was named first-team All-Shore as a senior on the tennis court…swam at the Red Bank YMCA for coach Jack Caucino for 10 years…YMCA national qualifier for four years in the 50 and 100 freestyle and the 100 fly as well as on relay teams…holds Red Bank YMCA 50 freestyle record and swam on the club’s 200 and 400 record-setting freestyle relay teams…YMCA All-America in the 50 butterfly and on multiple relay teams…helped lead Red Bank to a combined 10th-place finish at YMCA Nationals, the highest placing ever accomplished by the team…made honors with distinction all four years of high school…National Commended Merit Scholar…member of National Honor Society and National French Honor Society…graduated with a 4.70 GPA.
Personal: Full name is Katlyn Geraldine McKay…stands 5-10 tall…the daughter of David and Diane McKay…goes by Katie…was born June 20, 1995, in Red Bank, N.J. … biology and psychology double major…neuroscience minor...has a minor in neuroscience…worked as a lifeguard at Manasquan Beach in the summer…her mother played tennis at Michigan State while her father graduated from Georgia Tech…was a competitive ski racer when she was younger…plans on attending medical school after graduation…currently completing a senior honors thesis in psychology.
