JUNIOR (2007)
Set-up man established a school record and led the NCAA with 47 appearances, six more than Randy Boone of Texas • Posted a 6-1 record and a 2.35 ERA over 53 2/3 innings • Fanned 58 and walked just 23, while holding the opposition to a .252 average • Allowed just one home run and nine extra-base hits all season • Gave up an earned run in just 10 of his 47 appearances • Was dominant in the postseason with a 1.56 ERA and a 3-0 record over 12 appearances in the NCAA Tournament • Struck out 22 and walked just five in 17 1/3 postseason innings • Pitched in the Tar Heels' first 11 tournament games and set an NCAA record with six appearances in a single College World Series • Earned a spot on the NCAA Chapel Hill Regional All-Tournament Team after earning wins over Western Carolina and East Carolina and working 5 1/3 scoreless innings • Went a career-long 3 1/3 shutout innings in a comeback win against the Catamounts in the regional final June 4 • Beat No. 4 South Carolina with a pair of strikeouts in game one of the Super Regional June 8 and totaled 4 1/3 scoreless innings in the series victory • Struck out a career-best five batters over 2 1/3 shutout innings against UNC Greensboro March 14 • Also fanned five versus Campbell April 17 • Earned first career win at Boston College April 8 • Picked up victory No. 2 with 2 2/3 scoreless and four strikeouts against High Point April 25 • First career ACC win came with 2 2/3 shutout innings at Maryland May 18 • Logged a 3.52 ERA over 7 2/3 innings at the College World Series. Summer 2007: Pitched for the Chatham A's of the Cape Cod League • Was 1-0 with a 1.77 ERA in 13 relief appearances • Pitched 20 1/3 innings and struck out 32, while walking only nine.
SOPHOMORE (2006)
Made 10 appearances, including nine out of the bullpen and one start • Posted a 9.82 ERA on the season but did not allow an earned run over his final six appearances • Worked a total of 7.1 innings and struck out 14 • Allowed one hit and struck out the side against Towson March 22 • Fanned multiple batters in six of 10 appearances • Struck out two in a scoreless inning against Elon April 4 and versus Davidson April 5. Summer 2006: Notched a 2.03 ERA in 26.2 innings with the Wilmington Sharks of the Coastal Plain League • Made nine appearances and tallied a 1-2 record • Struck out 28 and walked only nine • Named the CPL's Pitcher of the Week for week eight after allowing just three hits and no earned runs over 10 innings.
FRESHMAN (2005)
Made nine appearances for the Tar Heels and posted a 3.77 earned run average • Worked 14.1 innings and struck out six batters • Did not record a decision • Worked three hitless innings versus Seton Hall Feb. 18 in his first collegiate appearance • Tossed two scoreless innings versus Ohio State March 5 and did not allow an earned run over his first five appearances • Pitched in ACC play against Clemson and Miami.
