Led the Tar Heels with a 2.81 ERA out of the bullpen Finished second on the squad with 32 appearances and two saves Also posted a 2-1 record Fanned 45 batters in 48.0 innings Held opposing batters to a .246 average, which was second-best on the team Worked a perfect two innings with three strikeouts against St. John's on March 1 Tossed 4.1 scoreless innings in the Wake Forest series Made three scoreless appearances against NC State (April 25-27) Struck out a career-best six batters against Princeton on March 18 Worked two shutout innings against Mississippi State in the NCAA Regional clinching win on June 1 Longest outing of his career came with 4.2 scoreless innings against South Carolina in the NCAA Super Regional on June 6. Summer 2003: Went 2-2 with a 0.52 ERA for the Wilmington Sharks of the Coastal Plain League Also struck out 31 batters.
As a Sophomore (2002)
Appeared in 18 games out of the bullpen Led all pitchers with a 2.08 ERA Pitched 1.1 scoreless innings of relief while striking out two batters in opening day victory over Seton Hall on Feb. 15 Recorded his only save of the season against High Point on March 13 Pitched a scoreless seventh inning and struck out two batters versus Towson on March 26.
As a Freshman (2001)
Compiled a 2-1 record in 18 appearances, 16 out of the bullpen Held opponents without an earned run in 10 of 16 relief appearances Struggled in back-to-back starts to open the year, but fared better out of the bullpen Struck out two Seton Hall batters in one scoreless inning for his first win on Feb. 25 Improved to 2-1 two days later with a stellar 3.1 innings of scoreless and hitless relief against Davidson (Feb. 27); struck out a season-high five batters and walked just one against the Wildcats Struck out four UNC Wilmington batters on April 24 Had a clutch, two-out, pinch hit single against in the eighth inning of the 4-0 win at Clemson on April 29; it was just his second at bat all season and his only hit, but helped set up a dramatic finish at Clemson against Tiger ace Steve Reba. Summer 2001: Played for the Wilmington Sharks of the Coastal Plain League and was named a CPL All-Star Was 3-3 with a 2.63 ERA in 10 starts for the Sharks Pitched three complete games and struck out 48 batters.
