Sophomore Season (2015)
Extremely competitive veteran who has emerged as an anchor in the weekend rotation after a breakout second year at UNC • Earned second-team All-ACC honors • Finished with a 4-3 record and a 2.79 ERA in a team-high 84.0 innings • Struck out 74 batters and walked just 19 while limiting opponents to a .231 batting average, lowest on the staff among qualifiers • Allowed just two earned runs at Boshamer Stadium in 42.1 innings of work (0.43 ERA) • Appeared in 14 games and made 12 starts after starting the season in the bullpen • Extended Carolina's season with a win against Virginia Tech in the ACC Tournament (5/19), allowing two runs in 6.2 innings in a 4-3 win over the Hokies • Pitched into the ninth and allowed just one run on five hits against Virginia but did not factor into the decision (5/14) • Tossed his first career complete game shutout with nine spectacular innings of three-hit ball in a 1-0 win over Boston College (4/24) • Also struck out eight Eagles and walked just two in the win, earning ACC Pitcher of the Week honors for his performance • Threw his first career complete game in a 2-1 win over NC State (4/10) • Allowed one unearned run on six hits and struck out five, needing just 112 pitches to go the distance • Did not factor into the decision despite seven strong innings with one run allowed and eight strikeouts against a potent Miami lineup (3/27) • Also left with a lead at Georgia Tech (3/20) after throwing seven innings and striking out seven, allowing just two runs and not walking a batter • Tallied a career-high 12 strikeouts and allowed just one unearned run over seven innings against Duke (3/6) to pick up his first win of the year • Was a hard-luck loser in his first start of the year, a 6-3 setback against Rhode Island (2/28) in which he allowed one earned run on five hits in six innings and struck out nine Rams without walking a batter • Needed just 21 pitches to work two perfect innings in his first appearance of the year in relief against Seton Hall (2/14).
Freshman Season (2014)
Strike-throwing right-hander who earned a spot in the weekend rotation with an impressive fall and made 17 starts • Finished with a 5-4 record on the year with 62 strikeouts and a 4.64 ERA in 85.1 innings • Went at least 5.0 innings in 10 of his 17 starts, include his first five as a Tar Heel • Did not walk more than three batters in any outing and finished the season with a 62/23 strikeout-to-walk ratio • Allowed just 12 extra-base hits for the year • Despite leaving the game in the seventh with a 7-2 lead, did not factor into the decision in the win over Maryland in the ACC tournament (5/24) • Was a hard-luck loser in the regular season finale at Miami (5/17), allowing two runs on seven hits in 6.1 innings with a career-high 108 pitches, striking out six and walking none • Had perhaps his best outing as a Tar Heel against Campbell (5/6), allowing just five hits over 6.0 shutout innings for his fifth win of the year • Picked up win No. 4 with 5.1 innings of work at No. 1 Virginia (4/20) • Also had wins against Boston College (4/6), Maryland (3/16) and North Florida (3/2) • Impressed in his college debut at the College of Charleston (2/17), taking a tough-luck loss after allowing two runs on seven hits in 6.2 innings.
