General: Joins Ben Hunt, Bobby McAuley and Jack Ryan as captains of the 2009 Tar Heels...one of the most athletic goalkeepers in the country...is tremendous at stopping the ball and also mobile and agile outside of the cage...has very quick hands...named a preseason honorable mention All-America by Face-Off Yearbook and Inside Lacrosse...was also tapped for the preseason All-ACC Team chosen by Face-Off Yearbook and Inside Lacrosse...three-year returning starter at the position for the Tar Heels...was the co-starting goalkeeper as a redshirt freshman in 2006 with Trey Sheain as Zimmerman started eight of the 14 games...has started all 30 games for the Tar Heels over the past two seasons...suffered a serious knee injury his senior year in high school, tearing an anterior cruciate ligament in one of his knees...that led to him redshirting during the 2005 season after coming to Carolina in the fall of 2004... spent most of the 2005 season in rehabilitation...is the younger brother of former UNC midfielder Lance Zimmerman who played at Carolina from 2001-05...won campus intramural flag football championship...also an excellent student at Carolina...was named to the fall 2008 Dean's List, one of several times he has been named to the List.
2008 Season (Redshirt Junior): Shared the Turnbull Trophy as the co-most valuable player of the 2008 team with Ben Hunt...won the Holmes Harden, Sr. Memorial Ground Ball Award with a total of 65...named by the USILA to the 2008 honorable mention All-America Team...chosen for the All-ACC squad...a member of the ACC Men's Lacrosse All-Academic Team...a 2007-08 ACC Academic Honor Roll selection...named to the spring 2008 Dean's List...started all 14 games in goal, totaling 796 minutes, 14 seconds...made 170 saves while allowing 125 goals, a save percentage of .576...finished with an 8-6 record...had a 9.42 goals against average while facing 524 shots...was named ACC Player of the Week February 25 after making 10 saves and allowing only five goals in a 6-5 win over Denver...was also the ACC Player of the Week March 10 after making a career-high 18 saves while allowing only six goals in an 8-6 victory over Notre Dame...had a career-high nine ground balls against Virginia and also had eight versus Notre Dame..also had six ground balls against Maryland and Duke in the ACC Tournament...was credited with six caused turnovers...had 15 saves and allowed only eight goals in a 15-8 win over Cornell...had nine saves and allowed only three goals in a little over 47 minutes of play versus Marist...had 14 saves and allowed only eight goals in a 13-8 win over Johns Hopkins...made 13 saves and allowed only eight goals in matches against Hofstra and Navy.
2007 Season (Redshirt Sophomore): Started all 16 games for the Tar Heels in 2007 and played all but 51 minutes of the season at the position...ranked third on the team in ground balls with 61...made 157 saves during the season and had a goals against average of 9.94 per game...compiled a 10-6 goalkeeper record ...recorded his season high for saves in a game with 15 in the 13-10 win over Johns Hopkins and 15 in the 10-9 overtime loss at Virginia...named to 2006-07 ACC Academic Honor Roll...earned membership on the spring semester Dean's List at UNC...ranked No. 49 in the nation in ground balls per game, one of the leading goalie totals in the nation...had a season-high eight ground balls in a game versus Johns Hopkins...saved 57 percent or more of the shots against him versus Denver, Dartmouth, Notre Dame, Duke (regular season), Johns Hopkins, Virginia, Fairfield and Navy in the NCAA Tournament...had his best save percentage of the season versus Dartmouth (.684)...scored a goal in UNC's victory over Notre Dame.
2006 Season (Redshirt Freshman): Started eight of the 11 games he played in as a redshirt freshman...played 445 plus minutes...recorded a season-high 11 saves against Hofstra and against Johns Hopkins...made 11 saves and allowed only six goals against the Pride...had 15 ground balls, including a season-high four against Johns Hopkins...came on in a relief role against Fairfield and played the last 11:40 of the game, facing 16 shots and making seven saves while not allowing a goal...had an assist on a Tar Heel goal in the ACC Tournament semifinals versus Maryland.
Prep: A phenomenal high school goalkeeper at The Gilman School...graduated from there in June 2004...played three years of varsity lacrosse, four years of varsity football and one year of varsity basketball for a total of eight high school letters...first team All-County selection in lacrosse...first-team All-Metro selection in both lacrosse and football as named by the Baltimore Sun...an honor roll student.
