General:
Ranks as fastest 200-yard butterflier in UNC history at 1:57.66...that is also the ACC record in the event...also ranks second in UNC history in the 500-yard freestyle at 4:46.97, seventh in the 1000-yard freestyle at 9:57.45 and eighth in the 1650-yard freestyle at 16:39.39...has developed into one of the top butterfliers in the nation...was a solid performer for the Tar Heels her freshman through junior seasons...member of UNC relays which hold school, ACC and ACC meet records in the 800 free relay…is an outstanding distance freestyler and individual medleyist as well as a butterflier…swam for the Santa Clara Swim Club before coming to Carolina.
2002-03:
Was a consolation finalist in two events at the 2003 NCAA Championships...established the ACC record in the 200-yard butterfly at 1:57.66 while finishing 11th in the event at NCAAs...she placed 14th in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:48.53...swam the anchor leg on Carolina’s 800-yard freestyle relay which took 10th place...placed 37th in the 200-yard freestyle at 1:49.62, her career best...was the 2003 ACC champion in the 200-yard butterfly, winning in a time of 1:59.61...she also placed third in the 500-yard freestyle at 4:48.39 and ninth in the 200-yard freestyle at 1:50.49...she anchored Carolina’s 800 free relay team which placed second...2003 All-ACC selection...shared the Class of 1989 Most Dedicated Swimmer Award on the team in 2002-03...named the ACC Women’s Swimmer of the Week on November 4, 2002.
Summer 2002:
Finished 15th in the 200-meter butterfly and 22nd in the 200-meter freestyle at the 2002 U.S. Summer Nationals...qualified to swim in the 2004 Olympic Trials in the 200 fly.
2001-02:
Earned honorable mention All-America honors last season in three events--the 200- and 400-yard medley relays and the 800-yard freestyle relay...named first-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference...NCAA qualifier in the 100 fly and 200 fly, finishing 22nd in the latter....at the ACC meet, she was runnerup in 200 fly, 10th in 100 fly, 10th in 500 free and swam on 800 FR which placed second.
Summer 2001:
Finished 10th in the 200-meter fly at the Santa Clara Grand Prix meet in June...at the U.S. Nationals she copped 18th in the 200-meter fly.
2000-2001:
At the 2001 ACC Championships, she finished third in the 200 fly (1:59.83), fifth in the 500 free (4:51.61) and sixth in the 400 IM (4:21.91)...All-ACC selection…was also a member of the ACC champion 800 free relay…at the 2001 NCAA Championships, she garnered honorable mention All-America honors with her 13th place finish in the 200 fly…led off the UNC 800 free relay which finished seventh at NCAA’s, meriting first-team All-America honors...that relay broke ACC record...she also placed 31st in the 400 IM and 43rd in the 500 free at NCAA’s…her performance in the 200 fly ranks fifth all-time among Carolina swimmers and her clocking in the 500 free ranks ninth best ever by a Tar Heel.
Prep:
Graduated on June 15, 2000 from Los Gatos High School…swam all four years in high school…was a 1999 All America in the 100 fly as well as the 200 free…was the 2000 league champion in the 100 fly and 200 free…was the MVP for her high school team her senior year.
Personal:
Given name is Kelly Susanne Weeks…nicknamed “Kelsue”...is the daughter of Josh and Sue Weeks…has two brothers…her oldest brother, David, swam for UNC from from 1997-2000, was captain his senior year, and is now an assistant coach…her other brother, Matt, is a ranger for the U.S. Army…athlete she most admires is teammate Justin Donato…hobbies include watching Digimon and going dancing with teammate Amanda Kline…communications major.
