General: Two-time returning letter winner who competes in the backstroke and the butterfly...also swims the freestyle sprints for UNC...joined Carolina after swimming for the Bolles Sharks in Jacksonville, Fla....was coached there by Larry Shofe.
2004-05: Once again, produced in another solid season for Carolina...took 23rd in the 100-yard backstroke...also swam her way to 23rd in the 200-yard backstroke...competed in the 50-yard freestyle.
2003-04: Competed again in the ACC Championships as an exhibition swimmer, competing in the backstrokes and 50 free.
2002-03: Swam in the 2003 ACC Championships as an exhibition swimmer...competed in the 50 free, 100 back and 200 back.
Prep: 2002 graduate of Bolles School...four-year varsity swimmer...also swam for Bolles Sharks club team...best events were the 100 and 200 backstrokes, 200 IM, 400 IM and 100 fly...three-time All-America...three-time high school state champion in the 100 back (freshman and sophomore years in North Carolina, junior year in Florida)...high school MVP as freshman and sophomore...member of Florida High School Swimming first-team All-State squad as junior and senior.
Personal: Given name is Mary Margaret Gamblin...was born January 3, 1984 in Portsmouth, Va....daughter of George and Barbara Gamblin...has one brother...English major...wants to be a high school English teacher...athlete she most admires is former Tar Heel swimmer Leila Martin...her brother, Todd, swam at Williams College for four years and was a three-year NCAA Division III Championships qualifier...her biggest sports thrill was being part of the first all-girls state championship team for St. Mary's High School in Raleigh in 2000...her favorite hobby is singing karaoke...she enjoys eating Brach's Jelly Beans and watching Queer Eye for the Straight Guy.
