Tri-captain of the 2002-03 Tar Heel team...ranks eighth in UNC history in the 1000-yard freestyle at 9:13.92, fourth in the 400-yard individual medley at 3:52.56 and third in the 1650-yard freestyle at 15:13.87...has solidified his reputation as one of the Atlantic Coast Conference’s top distance swimmers since her arrived at Carolina...also an excellent performer in the IM...swam this past summer in the U.S. Nationals…swam for Coach Dave Westfahl at the Shorewood Swim Club...swam for his club team for a decade...placed 18th at spring senior nationals in 1999 in 400-meter IM…he maintains one of the highest cumulative GPA of any male student-athlete at UNC…was admitted to the UNC Kenan-Flagler School of Business Administration as a sophomore.
2001-02:
Garnered Dean’s List accolades in fall semester of 2001...also made it in the spring...2002 ACC Academic Honor Roll selection...named to Verizon/CoSIDA Academic All-America All-District Team, one of the top honors in the nation...ACC finishes included ninth in the 1650 free and 11th in both the 500 free and 400 IM.
Summer 2001:
Turned in an outstanding performance in June’s Santa Clara Grand Prix Meet, finishing seventh in the 400-meter IM...he also took 16th place in the 800-meter free and 18th place in the 1500-meter free...at the USS Southern Sectional in Athens, Ga., he placed fifth in the 200 fly, 800 free and 1500 free, sixth in the 400 IM, 10th in the 400 free and 16th in the 200 IM...at the USS Nationals he placed 46th in the 800 meter free and in the 400-meter free, 38th in the 1500-meter free and 18th in the 400-meter IM.
2000-2001:
At the 2001 ACC Championships, he finished third in the 400 I.M. (3:52.56), fifth in the mile (15:13.87) and 12th in the 500 free (4:26.45)…his performance in the mile vaulted him into third all-time for UNC swimmers, and his 400 I.M. clocking ranks fourth among all-time Carolina swimmers…at the 2001 NCAA Championships, he finished 21st in the mile, 27th in the 400 I.M., and 35th in the 500 free…continued to excel in the classroom...he was again a Dean’s List student both semesters and ACC Academic Honor Roll member...had a perfect 4.0 during the fall semester 2000…was named All-ACC for his performance in the 400 I.M….also selected as an NCAA Academic All-American by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America…received the Bruce Webster Most Dedicated Swimmer Award for the second straight year.
1999-2000:
Recipient of Bruce Webster Memorial Award as the most dedicated swimmer…won the Nike Cup championship in the 1650 free…at the 2000 ACC Championships, he finished fourth in the 1650 free (15:18.23), the fifth fastest performance ever for a Tar Heel; sixth in the 400 IM (3:53.63 prelim), the ninth-fastest clocking for a UNC swimmer; and eighth in the 500 free (4:27.78)…qualified for the NCAA Championships in the mile…at the 2000 NCAA Championships, he finished 27th in the 1500-meter free, 28th in the 400-meter IM and 44th in the 400-meter free…member of the ACC Academic Honor Roll…Dean’s List student both semesters...had a perfect 4.0 GPA in the spring 2000 semester.
Prep:
Graduated on June 6, 1999 from Homestead High School...three-year member of high school swim team...was the 1999 Wisconsin High School Swimmer of the Year...captain of two-time high school state championship team at Homestead...state record holder in 500-yard freestyle...two-time state champion in 500-yard freestyle and 200-yard individual medley and as member of Homestead’s 400-yard free relay team...was valedictorian of high school class.
