In 2000: In indoor, placed 2nd in the weight and shot at the ACC Championships… In Indoor, won the discus and hammer at the USCTFS with throws of 175-5 and 196-11, respectively… Competed at the Duke Invitational and placed 1st in the discus (171-2)… Set a school record on the hammer throw at the second USCTFS with a throw of 202-7… Placed 1st at the ACC Championships in the discus (175-5)… Also placed 3rd at the ACC Championships in the shot put (51-9 1/4) and the hammer throw (186-3).
In 1999: Competed only in outdoor ... Competed in the discus and shot put in the ACC Championships, finishing fourth in the discus with a throw of 170-9, third best mark in Carolina history and seventh in the shot put with a throw of 49-1 * ... Had a season-long in the shot put of 49-10 * at the Carolina Classic
In 1998: Placed second at ACC Championships in the weight throw with a mark of 61-11 3/4 ... That throw ranks second all-time at Carolina behind Sean Murray's 64-0 toss in 1991 ... Won the weight throw (58-5 3/4) at the Joe Hilton Invitational ... Finished sixth in the shot put (52-0 1/2) at the ACC Championships.
Prep: Won the National Championship in 25-pound weight throw and was a high school All-America in the discus and hammer throw ... Also played football and was named all-county.
Personal: Son of Salvatore and Gabriele Gigante ... Born Salvatore Louis Gigante on July 17, 1979 ... Plans on majoring in Business... Has two sisters and a brother.
