Adam Cottrell

A former Carolina men's club rowing coach and student-athlete, Adam Cottrell joins the Tar Heels in March 2020 with nearly two decades of coaching and rowing experience. As the head coach of the men's squad for four seasons, Cottrell guided both the varsity and novice 4+s to the 2011 American Collegiate Rowing Association (ACRA) championship. He also led the varsity and JV 8+s from the ACRA C-finals in 2008 to A-finals in 2013. Cottrell also served as an assistant coach for the men's team, leading boats to medalist finishes at several well-known regattas in the southeast.
Aside from Carolina, Cottrell served as head coach and program manager for Cascadilla Boat Club in Ithaca, New York for two seasons. Upon graduation from Carolina, Cottrell spent time as an assistant coach at Marietta College and the Anchorage Rowing Club. Cottrell earned a Bachelor of Science degree in physics from North Carolina in 2006 and a Master of Arts in Teaching in Secondary Science in 2007. Cottrell has 13 years of teaching experience at the elementary and high school levels.
