General--A top-flight defender and midfielder who started for the first half of the 2003 season before going to the sidelines because of a torn ACL... ironically, she also missed the entire 2002 campaign because of a torn ACL as well...she is versatile enough to play either on defense or in the midfield...one of the best high school players to ever come out of the state of North Carolina...was rated the third-best high school prospect in the nation in 2002 by Soccer America magazine......started with fellow UNC defender Kendall Fletcher on the back line of the U.S. Under-19 National Team which won the world championship in the summer of 2002.
ODP Soccer Experience--Was one of two incoming freshmen on the 2002 team with U.S. National Team experience...a past member of the U.S. Under-19 National Team...currenly a member of the U.S. Under-21 National Team...has been a pool member of the full National Team squad since 2000, earning four caps in the process during the 2001 season...played her club soccer for the Greensboro Twisters and the Atlanta Lightning...won the Under-19 national championship with the Lightning.
2003 Season--Played in 14 matches before her season was ended by a torn ACL...started 10 times...had all of her scoring in UNC's 5-2 regular-season win over No. 3 UCLA...scored two goals, including the game-winning tally and also had an assist in the match...selected for the Soccer Buzz Elite Team of the Week on September 24, 2993...named to ACC Academic Honor Roll for the second straight year.
2002 Season--Redshirted while rehabbing from a torn ACL...named to ACC Honor Roll with 3.68 GPA...earned membership on Dean's List each semester.
Prep--An alumna of Brevard High School in 2002...Parade and NSCAA High School All-America selection in 2001 and 2002...missed her senior year of high school soccer because of a torn ACL...she played soccer as well as running track and swimming as a prepster...ran track for two years and swam for one year...was the 400-meter state champion in 2001, the 2001 WAC Conference Runner of the Year and an outstanding 100-yard freestyler in swimming...also competed on her high school's Math Team.
Personal--Given name is Amy Elizabeth Steadman...nicknamed Steady...the daughter of Ned and Carol Steadman...has one brother...was born September 8, 1984 in Brevard, N.C....says her father has had the greatest influence on her athletic career...he participated in track at Appalachian State...majoring in political science...would like to attend law school after UNC...likes to read in her spare time...biggest sports thrill was winning the Under-19 World Championship in 2002...athlete she most admires is Lance Armstrong...favorite book is The Hunt for Red October, favorite TV show is Seinfeld, favorite movie is The Usual Suspects and favorite food is ice cream...active in ACC Outreach activities.
