General--A recruited non-scholarship player from Chapel Hill who has lettered three times and played a key role as a reserve forward for UNC...a native of Canada, she became a United States citizen in 1998.
ODP Soccer Experience--Played with a variety of club teams...led the Chantilly Hurricanes to the state cup championship in 1995...played on the Carolina United Soccer Club which won the state cup championship in 1997...also played for the Greensboro Twisters as they won state cup championships in 1999, 2000 and 2001 and were regional finalists all three of those years...on the ODP level she was a member of the State Team from 1996-2000 and a member of the regional pool program in 1996.
2003 Season--Came off the bench to see action in 10 matches as a reserve forward...had an assist in UNC's first-round NCAA win over High Point. 2002 Season--Earned membership on the 2003 ACC Academic Honor Roll with a GPA of 3.08...played in seven games for the Tar Heels and earned a reputation for producing instant offense...she took only five shots on the season but scored three goals...her goals came against Guilford, in the ACC Tournament championship game against Clemson and in the NCAA first round match against Radford...she also had an assist in the Guilford match.
2001 Season--Played in two games for the Tar Heels, seeing action against Georgia and Missouri.
Prep--Graduated from Chapel Hill High School on June 9, 2001...played varsity soccer from 1998-2001...played both on defense and at forward...as a senior she was named all-conference, all-state, all-region and was the team's captain and MVP...as a junior, she was the Piedmont Athletic Conference Player of the Year and was also named all-conference, all-region and all-state...she was also CHHS's offensive MVP as a junior...as a sophomore, she was the team's offensive MVP and an All-Conference and All-Region choice...she also won those same honors as a freshman...was a class council member her freshman through senior years...served as secretary of her sophomore class and was active in Key Club and on the yearbook staff.
Personal--Given name is Sophie Jocelyne Gervais...has one brother and one sister...was born in Toronto, Ontario on September 15, 1983...is the daughter of Pierre and Jocelyne Gervais...athlete she most admires is Lance Armstrong...her brother, Eric, played lacrosse at Loyola College...he is a member of the Canadian National Lacrosse Team and a member of a professional indoor lacrosse team, the Baltimore Thunder...says her brother has had the greatest influence on her athletic career...attended the Janseen Peek Performance Leadership Workshop...her hobbies include painting, traveling and dancing...biggest sports thrill was winning the 2003 NCAA championship...favorite movie is Finding Nemo...favorite foods are sushi, pasta and anything Mexican...favorite TV show is Sex and The City...majoring in journalism and advertising.
