General - Has a tremendous chance to move into the starting lineup for Carolina this season on the defensive end of the field...Carolina lost two defensive starters to graduation and the team may look to this red-shirt senior to step up her playing presence this year...saw spot action in 1997 in the back as a member of a veteran defensive corps...followed that up with an increased role in the defense over the past two seasons, playing in 20 games in 1997 and 21 games in 1998...was red-shirted as a freshman in 1996 in order to retain four years of eligibility...was one of the top high school defenders in the nation four years ago...possesses great speed...coach Anson Dorrance also praises her mental attitude.
1999 Season - Played in 21 games for the Tar Heels as a junior...started seven games, all in the second half of the season...had six assists on the season, including a pair in the NCAA win over Central Florida...named to Soccer America Team of the Week on November 2, 1999...named to UNC's Dean's List in fall semester of 1999...was also selected formembership on the 2000 ACC Academic Honor Roll.
1998 Season - Played a valuable reserve defensive role last season for the Tar Heels...was one of the first reserves off the bench for the Tar Heels as a sophomore...started games against Maryland and Virginia...she saw action in 20 games for UNC, increasing her playing time as the year progressed...recorded four assists on the season...had assists on goals versus Florida State, Tennessee, Virginia and UNC-Charlotte...was named to the 1998-99 ACC Academic Honor Roll after posting a 3.031 GPA last school year while majoring in physical education.
1997 Season - Played in nine games for the Tar Heels as a red-shirt freshman...started against Florida State and Clemson in the ACC Tournament...scored her only goal of the year against FSU.
1996 Season -Red-shirted her freshman year to gain experience as a practice player.
Prep - Started for Region I under-19 team...1996 alumna of Walter Panas High School in Cortland, N.Y....played soccer, basketball and field hockey for four years each in high school...was high school soccer team's all-time leading scorer, league MVP, team MVP and captain...played on a club soccer team which won 1995 state and regional championships...a Parade All-America in 1995...member of under-20 national team pool...school's all-time leading scorer in field hockey...also All-State and team captain in that sport...team captain and All-League choice in basketball....National Honor Society member and honor roll student.
Personal - Given name is Christina Marie Murphy...nicknamed "Murfs"...has one brother and two sisters...born April 28, 1978 in Tarrytown, N.Y....daughter of Jim and Trudy Murphy...exercise science major...athlete she most admires is Jackie Joyner Kersee.
