Sara Daavettila

Sara Daavettila, one of the most decorated players in the history of North Carolina women's tennis team, will serve as a volunteer assistant coach during the 2021-22 season. Daavettila also plans to begin her professional playing career during the year.Â
Daavettila was a seven-time ITA All-America selection (singles in 2017, 2019, 2020, 2021 and doubles in 2018, 2020, 2021) that won 149 career singles matches, second only to Hayley Carter in Tar Heel history. She was a member of three ITA National Team Indoor Championships in 2018, 2020 and 2021, and won four ACC Championships from 2017-19 and 2021. Daavettila won the 2019 ITA Fall National Championship singles title.
She became the first UNC women’s tennis player to capture the Honda Sport Award in 2021, and is the only player to ever receive the Most Outstanding Player award more than once at the ITA indoor tournament. Additionally, she earned the 2021 UNC Patterson Medal and was a 2021 Academic All-America second team selection.
Daavettila graduated in May 2021 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in communication studies and a social and economics justice minor. She was recognized as a Tar Heel Leader of Distinction, the highest honor bestowed by the Leadership Academy.
