Former Tar Heel heavyweight Ben Connell is in his second season as a student coach with the Carolina wrestling program.
Connell competed for the Tar Heels during the 2004-05 season after sitting out the 2003-04 campaign due to a knee injury.
He is a two-time member of the ACC Academic Honor Roll and is a Dean's List student.
Connell also attended Oklahoma for 2000-01 and redshirted as a member of the wrestling team. He then completed a two-year mission in Boston with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints before coming to Carolina.
In high school, Connell was a four-time South Carolina state champion and all-state choice at Lugoff-Elgin High School. He won a high school national title and was a Dave Shulz national award winner.
Connell is majoring in business administration and economics at Carolina and has a wife, Kristin.
