Jen Larsen is in her second year as an assistant coach at North Carolina after serving as an assistant field hockey coach at Duke for the two previous years.
In 2001, Carolina went 11-7 overall and 1-2 in the ACC, reaching the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals before losing at Georgetown. Larsen, a former lacrosse and field hockey player at the University of Virginia, previously had served as an assistant women’s lacrosse and field hockey coach at Georgetown University from 1996-98.
Larsen works directly with the Tar Heel defensive unit and assists head coach Jenny Slingluff Levy in all aspects of the Carolina program, including recruiting and administrative areas.
"Jen did a great job in her first year here, both as a coach on the field and a recruiter," Slingluff Levy says. "She’s been a great fit for our program."
As an assistant field hockey coach at Duke during the 1998 and ’99 seasons, Larsen worked primarily with the Blue Devil defensive unit and goalkeepers, helping lead Duke to the 1999 NCAA Tournament. She also was the program director of the Duke Field Hockey Camp in 1998 and ’99.
In the spring of 1999, Larsen was a head coach in the United States Field Hockey Association Futures Development Program, conducting drills for local athletes under the curriculum designed by the USFHA.
Larsen served as an assistant field hockey and women’s lacrosse coach at Georgetown from 1996-98, helping lead the Hoya women’s lacrosse team to the 1998 NCAA Tournament.
As a women’s lacrosse player at Virginia from 1993-96, Larsen was a member of the 1993 NCAA champion team. She was a two-year starter who served as team captain as a senior in 1996. She helped lead the Cavaliers to the 1994 NCAA Final Four and the 1996 NCAA championship game. A four-year starter for the UVa field hockey team, Larsen was the team’s captain during the 1995 season and led the Cavs to the NCAA quarterfinals in 1995. She earned second-team regional All-America honors in field hockey in 1994 and 1995.
Larsen earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from Virginia in 1996.
