Kendra Warren is in her first year as administrative assistant for the Carolina track and field program, although she is no stranger to UNC. Warren, who was an eight-time All-America student athlete for Carolina, returns to UNC after working as an assistant coach for the Tar Heels for nine years between 1992- 2005.
In her new position with the program, Warren will oversee all aspects of planning for men's and women's cross country and indoor and outdoor track and field.
Warren graduated from UNC in 1991 with a bachelor's degree in psychology. As a senior, she received the Jim Tatum Award given to the UNC senior athlete who most reflects athletic and academic excellence, leadership and courage. In 2008, Warren was added to the UNC Track and Field Hall of Honors, and is also a 1998 York County Sports Hall of Fame inductee.
While at Carolina, Warren was a three-time team captain and led the Tar Heels to seven ACC team titles in four years. She earned eight All-America honors and won 13 individual ACC titles, in addition to being named the Most Outstanding Performer at the 1988 ACC Outdoor Championships.
Warren, who holds the UNC school record in the 100, competed in the 1988 Olympic Trials in the 100, 200 and 400-meter events and qualified for the finals of the 400 in the 1992 Olympic Trials.
In addition to her success as an athlete, Warren has held several coaching and administrative roles, including serving as the director of operations at UNC from 2005-2007, head women's track and field coach from 2007-2008 at Virginia Commonwealth University, and assistant track and field coach at UNC and Emory.
Warren will continue in her duties as the athletic director and teacher at Cresset Christian Academy in Durham. Warren and her husband Terrence have a son, Jazz, and reside in Chapel Hill.
