July 16, 2026 | Track & Field
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – A rising star in the coaching ranks, Ethan Robinson has joined North Carolina Track & Field as its newest assistant coach, working with jumps and multi-events.
"Ethan is an exceptional young coach with a bright future. Much like when we hired Tommy Kitchell last year, I immediately saw a level of passion, enthusiasm and professionalism that is well beyond his years," said Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Chris Miltenberg. "Ethan had an outstanding career as a student-athlete at Virginia, and the impact he made in just one season as a coach there speaks for itself. I have no doubt he will quickly establish himself as one of the nation's top jumps and multi-events coaches while helping elevate an already talented group at Carolina."
"Thank you, Coach Miltenberg, for the opportunity to join UNC. I am excited to get to Chapel Hill and begin working with the staff to fulfill the goals and vision for the program! I look forward to helping the student-athletes reach their highest potential and build great team culture," said Robinson.
Robinson joins the Tar Heels following one season as an assistant coach at his alma mater Virginia, where he led multiple student-athletes to All-ACC selections in combined events.
As a student-athlete with the Cavaliers, Robinson secured a bronze medal and broke a school record at the 2025 ACC Indoor Championships, posting 5757 points in the heptathlon. At the 2025 ACC Outdoor Championships, Robinson also took home the bronze with 7435 points. Robinson's personal best with 7603 points in the decathlon ranks No. 4 all-time in UVA history.
The five-time All-ACC honoree earned his undergraduate degree in history from Virginia.
