Max Norris

Max Norris is in his second season as a full-time volunteer assistant coach on the Carolina women's tennis staff. A former standout player and 2008 graduate of Heidelberg University in Tiffin, Ohio, Norris assists with all aspects of the Carolina program.
In his first year on staff, Norris helped to maintain UNC's status as one of the top programs in the country. Alongside head coach Brian Kalbas and assistant coach Sara Anundsen, Norris helped to guide the Heels to a No. 4 final ITA ranking, an ACC Championship and an overall record of 26-6, the third-most wins in school history. Additionally, the 2011 Tar Heels had three different players earn ITA All-America status for the first time since 2003.
As a student-athlete at Heidelberg University, Norris was a first-team Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference selection in 2007 and 2008 as well as a second-team all-league performer in 2006 and 2008. He was voted the team's most valuable player all four years and compiled a record of 80-50 playing mostly in the top three singles positions and the top two doubles spots.
Following his graduation from Heidelberg, Norris spent two years at Ball State University, earning a master's degree in Communication Studies in 2010. While at Ball State, Norris spent two seasons as a student assistant and volunteer coach of the men's tennis team under head coach Bill Richards.
Off the court, Norris also taught the Fundamentals of Public Communication course to undergraduate students from 2008-10 and earned the Department of Communication Studies' 2010 Graduate Student of the Year Award at Ball State. In addition to his time at Ball State, Norris was also a teaching professional at Sylvania Country Club from 2005-09 under Scott Perelman, current UNC men's tennis volunteer assistant.
Norris also serves as co-director for the UNC ITA Collegiate Summer Circuit tournaments and serves as a staffer for the Carolina Tennis School summer camps and fall clinics.
