Noah Goldman is in his second season as assistant coach at UNC. He came to Carolina from Oregon State, where he coached the Beavers for six seasons, including two as associate head coach.
His first season was one of the best in Carolina history as the Tar Heels won a school-record-tying seven team championships, won the ACC title for the first time in 18 seasons, became the third team in the match play era (since 2009) to advance to match play in the NCAA Championships four years in a row, had two medalists and set a record with five players on the All-ACC team.
“Noah is one of the elite coaches in the country,” says UNC head coach Andrew DiBitetto. “He’s exceptional when it comes to building personal relationships, has a high golf IQ and is very competitive. He’s enhanced our program in several ways, particularly with tournament preparation and player development. Noah is hard working, organized, loyal and communicates extremely well. We are fortunate and grateful he and his family are Tar Heels.”
Last year, Carolina won at Olympia Fields, the Williams Cup at Eagle Point, the prestigious East Lake Cup in Atlanta, the Amer Ari Invitational with a record-shattering score of 68-under 796 (the lowest to par in ACC history), the John Hayt, the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational and the ACC Championship. The Tar Heels were third in the NCAA Chapel Hill Regional with Austin Greaser the medalist after shooting a record score, tied for third in stroke and played in the quarterfinals in the NCAA Championship.
The Tar Heels compiled a 148-21-1 record in stroke play, went 4-2 in match play, were No. 3 in the country in the final Scoreboard/Clippd rankings and posted the second-highest stroke average (280.75) in UNC history.
Greaser (second team), David Ford and Maxwell Ford (both third team) earned All-America honors and all five UNC starters made the All-ACC team.
Goldman was a finalist for the 2024 Jan Strickland Award. It was the second time in four years (at two different schools) he was a finalist for the top award for assistant coaches in college golf.
Goldman played at Mississippi State from 2005-09 and professionally for two seasons before beginning his coaching career as a volunteer assistant with the women’s team at Samford in 2011. He spent two years (2012-14) as an assistant for both the men’s and women’s teams at Nova Southeastern and three years as the assistant men’s coach at his alma mater in Starkville, Miss., from 2014-17. The Nova Southeastern men’s team finished third in the 2013 NCAA Division II Championship and second in 2014, while the women’s team placed second in 2013.
He joined the OSU program in Corvallis in the summer of 2017, where he worked with head coach Jon Reehoorn.
Oregon State won five team titles and five different players (Carson Barry, Shawn Lu, Spencer Tibbits, Brandon Eyre and Mateo Fuenmayor) were medalists during his tenure.
The Beavers played in four straight NCAA regionals, only the second time in program history they qualified for the postseason in four consecutive seasons. In 2021, Tibbits and Lu finished in the top 10 and OSU tied for second in the NCAA Albuquerque Regional, the highest finish in a regional in school history. It marked a return to the NCAA Championship for the Beavers for the first time in seven years. Barry and Tibbits went on to make the fourth-round cut in the NCAA Championship.
In 2023, the Beavers shot 23 under par to tie for 10th in the NCAA Las Vegas Regional, the second-best postseason scoring total in OSU history. The Beavers had three consecutive second-place finishes and tied for sixth in the ASU Thunderbird Collegiate, tying No. 6-ranked Texas and beating No. 3 Texas Tech and No. 27 Baylor. Two Beavers won Pac-12 Player-of-the-Week honors.
In three season on staff at Mississippi State he helped his alma mater finish in the top five in 10 tournaments and two Bulldogs were medalists. Mississippi State improved in the rankings all three seasons and Goldman helped develop a new $3.3 million team building and practice facility. Peng Pichaikool was named to the SEC All-Freshman team and played in an NCAA regional.
From 2012-14 Nova Southeastern had three top-five finishes in the NCAA Division II Championships (men were third in 2013 and second in 2014 while the women were second in 2013).
The Longwood, Fla., native was a two-time SEC Player of the Week and won four college tournaments at Mississippi State, the third-most by a Bulldog. His career scoring average of 73.99 was fifth-lowest in school history and he shot the third-lowest round (64 at Oak Hills Country Club in San Antonio, Texas) and has the sixth-best single-season average (72.82 in 2007-08) in MSU history.
Goldman graduated magna cum laude in 2008 and earned his MBA at Mississippi State the following year. He was a Dean’s List, Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar, President’s Scholar and McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Award (graduate studies scholarship) winner.
He shot 2-under 140 at Trysting Tree Golf Club in Corvallis to tie for first and qualify for the 2023 U.S. Amateur. In 20-24, he shot 66 to win a U.S. Am qualifier at Finley Golf Club.
He and his wife, Ashley, have two daughters, Ellie and Mila.
