Bailey Rewarded Again With ACC Rookie Honors
January 15, 2018 | Women's Basketball
GREENSBORO, N.C. – North Carolina freshman forward Janelle Bailey has been good all season for the Tar Heels. On Sunday, she was outstanding and because of that was named ACC Rookie of the Week on Monday. This is already the fifth honor this season for the native of Matthews, North Carolina.
Bailey scored a career-high 30 points and 19 rebounds in the Tar Heels' overtime win at Wake Forest. She is the only freshman this season to score 30 or more points, and her 19 boards tied for the most for an ACC player this season. Her 30 points were the most by a Tar Heel freshman since the 2013-14 season, while her 19 rebounds were the highest total by a Tar Heel since 2009. The rookie from Matthews, North Carolina, averaged 20.0 points and 15.0 rebounds in a 2-0 week for the Tar Heels.
Carolina (13-5, 3-2 ACC) rides a three-game winning streak into Thursday's home date with NC State at 7 p.m. Tickets are still available for this Tobacco Road tradition.
