UNC Visits Boston College On Friday

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - North Carolina visits Boston College for an ACC tilt that has been moved back to Friday due to the pending weather expected on Thursday. The game will tip from the Conte Forum at 11 a.m. Both teams are looking for their first conference victory.
The Tar Heels opened the league slate last Sunday with a 103-65 loss at No. 13 Florida State, while Boston College lost 89-58 at Virginia Tech.

Senior guard Jamie Cherry finds a way to score the basketball. She has averaged 26.0 points in her last two games against Boston College. That includes a then career-high 31-point performance last season in Chapel Hill. Cherry also had 21 points in the 2016 meeting against the Eagles.Â

Sylvia Hatchell won her 1,000th career game with a 79-63 victory over Grambling State on Tuesday, Dec. 19 at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. Hatchell, a 2013 Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame inductee, is only the third women's basketball coach in history to reach 1,000 career victories, joining former Tennessee legend Pat Summitt and Stanford's Tara VanDerveer. Duke's Mike Krzyzewski is the only men's coach among Division I basketball coaches to hit the 1,000 mark. Connecticut head coach Geno Auriemma got his 1,000th victory later on Tuesday night with a win over Oklahoma.

Carolina leads 12-2 all-time against Boston College. The Tar Heels are a perfect 6-0 at the Conte Forum in Chestnut Hill. Among the six wins was Sylvia Hatchell's 900th career win on Feb. 7, 2013, an 80-52 result.

Janelle Bailey earned ACC Rookie of the Week honors on Tuesday. Bailey averaged 18.0 points and 7.5 rebounds in only 22.5 minutes per game in a pair of contests for North Carolina. She registered 19 points and 10 rebounds against Mercer, and scored 17 points with five rebounds at No. 13/13 Florida State. Bailey shot a combined 61 percent in the two games en route to earning her fourth ACC Rookie of the Week nod.
