
Seniors Lead Duke Past UNC, 70-54

DURHAM, North Carolina - The North Carolina women's basketball team came out on the short side of a 70-54 outcome at No. 20 Duke on Sunday in the Atlantic Coast Conference regular-season finale from Cameron Indoor Stadium.
North Carolina (14-15, 4-12 Atlantic Coast Conference) will now prepare for the upcoming ACC Tournament in Greensboro, North Carolina. The 12th-seeded Tar Heels will face No. 13 seed Boston College in a first round game on Wednesday at 1 p.m.
The Eagles defended their home court in the only previous meeting off the season, winning 77-64 on Jan. 4 in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts.
Back to Sunday's Tobacco Road rivalry. UNC senior Jamie Cherry scored a team-high 20 points with six rebounds and six assists. Cherry moved into 19th on the program's all-time scoring list, passing Cetera DeGraffenreid's 1,562 points she scored from 2008-11.
Freshman star Janelle Bailey registered her 12th double-double of the campaign with an even 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Duke (22-7, 11-5) was led by its senior duo of Rebecca Greenwell and Lexie Brown that combined for 53 points in their final home game. Greenwell tied her career high with 31 points and hauled in 13 rebounds, while Brown offered up 11 assists to go with 22 points.
The Blue Devils, up by two at the half, scored the first 15 points of the second half, nine by Greenwell, to break the game open. Greenwell had 15 points in the quarter that ended with Duke up 56-36.
It was a tight, 31-29, edge to Duke at halftime. The Blue Devils have two byes into Friday's quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament.
