Paris Kea Named First Team All-ACC
February 27, 2018 | Women's Basketball
GREENSBORO, N.C. - North Carolina redshirt junior Paris Kea earned first team All-ACC women's basketball honors on Tuesday, as voted on by the Blue Ribbon Panel. Janelle Bailey was selected for the All-Freshman Team.Â
From Tarboro, North Carolina, Kea leads Carolina in scoring (18.8 ppg) and assists (4.9 apg) this season. Both figures rank fourth overall in the league. She is the only player in the ACC to compile 30 points and 10 assists in a game this season when she scored 30 and handed out 11 assists against South Alabama on Nov. 19.Â
Kea and fellow first-team selection Asia Durr of Louisville are the only two players from the conference to compile four separate games with 30 or more points. She set a new career high with 36 points in the victory over Duke on Jan. 21.
Kea has been a model of consistency in her second season in Chapel Hill. She has scored in double figures in 27-of-29 games, with 12 of those outings going for 20 points or more. Kea is just the fourth player in program history to score 1,000 points in the first two seasons with the Tar Heels.
She becomes the 32nd player in program history to earn All-ACC status, while Bailey is the 21st player named on the all-freshman team.
Bailey, from Matthews, North Carolina, leads all ACC freshman in both scoring and rebounding with 15.4 points and 9.1 boards per game. She was even better against the conference, averaging a double-double with 15.8 points and 10.1 caroms. Her 12 double-doubles rank fourth overall in the league.
Carolina (14-15) is the 12th seed in the upcoming ACC Tournament and will take on 13th seed Boston College Wednesday at 1 p.m. from the Greensboro Coliseum.
