CHAPEL HILL - Virginia Tech tied a season-high with 13 three-pointers on its way to a 90-74 victory over North Carolina Thursday evening from Carmichael Arena.
Paris Kea continued her torrid scoring pace with 20 points to lead North Carolina (14-10, 4-7 Atlantic Coast Conference). The Tarboro, North Carolina native is only the fourth player in program history to score 1,000 points in their first two seasons with the Tar Heels.
Janelle Bailey registered her eighth double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds and Jamie Cherry went over 1,500 career points with 14 to go with eight assists.
Taylor Emery had a game-high 25 points for Virginia Tech (16-8, 5-6), while Regan Magarity recorded her 12th double-double of the year with 24 points and 13 boards. Aisha Sheppard added 14 off the bench and Rachel Camp had 11.
Emery scored the first eight points of the game for the Hokies, but a layup in the final seconds of the first quarter by Cherry had UNC within 19-18 heading to the second period.
Another three-pointer from Emery gave her team a 24-18 edge, however, the Tar Heel offense came alive in the second quarter. A late Leah Church triple helped lift UNC to a 37-34 lead at intermission.
Carolina maintained its first-half advantage until the Hokies pieced together a 12-0 run. Sheppard buried the Hokies' 9th and 10th triples of the game to take a 56-45 lead.
The Hokies extended their lead out to 19, 77-59, midway into the fourth period.
