John Mark Hamilton joined the North Carolina football program in August 2017 as the team’s director of player personnel. A 2009 graduate of Appalachian St., Hamilton oversees the program’s recruiting database, coordinates recruiting plans with coaches, and assists with on-campus recruiting visits, among other duties. In his role, he helped Carolina land its top class over the last eight seasons.

Prior to arriving in Chapel Hill, Hamilton spent 12 seasons at his alma mater, four as an undergraduate assistant and eight in a variety of roles from on-field coach, on-the-road recruiter, and most recently, as director of player personnel. In that capacity, Hamilton helped ASU make a successful transition from the FCS level to FBS competition.

The Mountaineers won back-to-back Camellia Bowls in 2015 and ‘16 and captured the school’s first Sun Belt title in ‘16. Hamilton coordinated on-campus recruiting in Boone and assisted with other duties in the program, including acting as an NFL liaison. As an undergrad assistant from 2005-09, Hamilton was a part of Appalachian State’s three National Championships in 2005, ‘06 and ‘07.

A native of Matthews, N.C., Hamilton is married to the former Amanda Soper and the couple has a daughter, Emery. Hamilton’s father Ron is a UNC alumnus.
